Study Law in France

A student interested in studying Law in France can apply straight after his/her 10+2. The law schools in France are affiliated to Public Universities. The Law school programmes in France are usually divided in to three levels:
  • A student is required to get a license of law programme, ‘Licence de droit’ which is acquired after three years of full time education and is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Master of Law programme, ‘Master de droit’ a two year programme equivalent to Masters in Law.
  • One can also opt for a PhD in Law, ‘Doctorat en drot’ which can be of three year or more duration.   
 
If a student wishes to continue his/her practice in France then he/she must pass an examination in order to enter bar school, CRFPA or ‘école du barreau’. The only criterion is to finish the Masters of Law. If a student succeeds then he/she can take the CAPA exam(Certificat d'Aptitude à la Profession d'Avocat)after 18 months.

  • A student is required to apply for a Law college through French embassy. 
  • A student should have completed his 10+2 from a recognised institute.
  • Students may also have to write to the college/university along with the application form.  
  • Students are admitted on the basis of their LSAT scores
  • Students are also required to provide the proof of English language proficiency through TOEFL/IELTS.

The duration of a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from a college in France is of three years duration while Masters Courses can be of one year or two years of duration and admission to some courses is done on the basis of work experience.
